With the current digital revolution sweeping through the global knowledge economy, the job market is hungrier than ever for smart content creators.

Get a broad, high-quality foundation in media and communication with UFV's two-year Associate of Arts degree with a Media and Communications Studies (MACS) option.

Examine the evolution of mass media, advertising, and social media channels and how they are changing how people relate to each other. Discuss how different types of media serve the public and shape society. Develop a high degree of media literacy; hone your ability to evaluate the media you consume daily; and learn to use media with effectiveness and integrity.

When you graduate, you are trained to think critically and are equipped with the writing, communication, and presentation skills that are highly valued by employers and essential to succeeding in any further studies.

UFV's Associate of Arts degree in Media and Communications Studies is an excellent stepping stone to completing a Bachelor of Arts at 51³Ô¹Ïapp in a discipline such as Media Arts, English, Visual Arts, Political Science, Sociology, or Peace and Conflict Studies. You can also transfer your credits to UBC, UVic, UNBC, or SFU to complete a BA in Communications.

Career outlook for media and communication studies (MACS)

With the growth of digital technologies, more people than ever are required to create and share media as part of their job. An Associate of Arts degree with a Media and Communication Studies option can help you land an entry-level job in a wide range of roles in human resources, sales, customer service, hospitality, education, business, and more.

Entry-level opportunities may also exist in television and radio, film and video, digital media, computer games, journalism, writing and publishing, public relations, advertising, and marketing. Work BC lists advertising, marketing and public relations jobs as top opportunity occupations all the way to 2028.

Creative BC also reports that the motion pictures and video industry is booming, with annual revenues for film, TV, and digital media adding up to $3.4 billion. As for the interactive and digital media sector, it is one of the fastest growing industries in B.C. at a rate of 11% per year, making B.C. the world’s largest visual effects cluster.
